Can
you change the world in 3minutes?
July 9, 2009-The Broadway Triangle Community Coaltion (a coaliton of over 40 church, civic, educational and
community
organizations that represent the area’s largely African-American,
Chassidic and Latin- American communities and includes the area’s
diverse array of ethnic, economic, business and religious
organizations in Williamsburg Bushwick and Bed Stuy) will get
5 minutes to present there plan of the Broadway Triangle. The
BTCC sent a
written request as reported here first to Community Board 1 to present
there plan before the Community Board 1 voted on the HPD re-zoning of
the Broadway Triangle at Tuesday's meeting. Will 3 minutes
be enought time to sway those neutral votes? I guess we'll know by
Tuesday.
BTCC
Makes Formal Request to Present at
July CB1's Meeting

July 2, 2009-BTCC or the Broadway Triangle Community Coalition (includes over 40 church, civic, educational and community
organizations that represent the area’s largely African-American,
Chassidic and Latin- American communities and includes the area’s
diverse array of ethnic, economic, business and religious
organizations in Williamsburg Bushwick and Bed Stuy) sent a
written request last week to present there vision of the Broadway
Triangle to
Community Board 1 (CB-1), said Juan
Ramos chair of the BTCC.
This was in response to the City of New York Dept. of
Housing Preservation & Development (HPD) who made there
presentation
at the Community Board 1 Public Meeting and at CB-1 ULURP meeting in
June. Both Meetings brought out protesters from the BTCC.
It is
expected that at the July 14th Community Board 1 meeting to be more of
the same. This time around Community Board members will vote on
the
HPD plan. We want CB-1 to see
that the community doesn't support the HPD plan but feels that they
have a better plan with the BTCC, said
Anita Dunbar member of the BTCC.
Brooklyn
Party Boss Vito Lopez's
Doesn't
Believe In Hope For Kids
July 1,
2009-Families, Friends and staff united on Friday, June 26, 2009 ,
at "Hope Gardens" in Bushwick Brooklyn and
protested the closing of “Hope Gardens after school program &
summer camp”. A program administrated by the Brooklyn
Democratic Party Boss Vito Lopez founding organization Ridgewood
Bushwick Senior Center Council, Inc. (RBSCC). After almost
20 years of existence the program came to an end.
Due to the
political influences of Vito Lopez within Ridgewood Bushwick Senior
Citizens Council (RBSCC), the funding that would normally be
received from
Councilwoman Diana Reyna has been denied for this summer and for the
upcoming fall. The Summer Camp and After School Programs cannot
resume throughout the year as they have in the many years that have
passed, said Tiffany Perez employee
of RBSCC.
Staff members of RBSCC claim Chris Fisher, Executive Director of
RBSCC, refuse to accept any money from Councilwomen Diana Reyna and
gave no excuses for her reason. Several calls to Chris Fisher
went unanswered. In addition, staff claims she refuses to meet
with the parents and sent her assistant instead when confronted of the
abrupt closing of the program.
The timing could
not come at a worse time, our founder and beloved community leader Anna
Gonzalez passed away recently and she would have wanted this program to
stay and continue for the children of this community, instead the
children suffer and the parents who depend on this camp program in the
summer are left hung out to dry, said
Joanna Gomez employee of
RBSCC.
The staff wants the program to continue this summer and urges Chris
Fisher to reconsider and provide funding from another venue since she
already turned down the $143,000 allocated for her by the City
Councilwomen Diana Reyna.
No one has money
to fund anything these days but Chris turns down over $100,00 in
funding how can that not be political, said Joanna Gomez employee of
RBSCC.
